For the third straight year, football fans enjoyed a competitive Super Bowl game that has often left fans disappointed after sitting through many blowouts in recent years.

The New orleans saints surprised the sports world by beating an Indianapolis Colts team that was favored to win the game. A lot of this occurred thanks to a powerful offensive performance on the part of Came Brees and his teammates, top stories  but the New Orleans defense was equally efficient in constraining Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.

Let’s take a look at a few of the top stories from Super Bowl XLIV. If you missed on the game, here are the things you should know about.

First of all, Came Brees was nearly perfect after getting off to a unreliable start. While he completed just three of his first seven pass attempts, he went 29 for his next 32 to finish with 32 completions in 39 attempts with 288 metres, 2 touchdown passes, and no turnovers.

Numbers like these are remarkable, and this is one of the most efficient quarterback tasks in the history of the Super Bowl. It should come as no surprise that Brees won the award.

Perhaps just as impressive was the performance of the young New orleans saints kicker Garrett Hartley, who made all three of his field goal attempts. Having successfully made kicks from forty four, fouthy-six, and 47 metres, all of these were integral to the team’s glory, and intensely clutch considering the New orleans saints trailed the Colts when he made two of his kicks.

Lastly, there was a controversy that emerged after the game involving Peyton Manning. After losing the game to the New orleans saints, the Indianapolis quarterback stormed off the field without banging hands with or congratulating any of the New Orleans players.

It’s traditional for the losing team’s players to congratulate the winners, so many are calling Manning’s act one of poor sportsmanship. Came Brees, on the other hand, said that she understood Manning’s frustration and doesn’t hold anything against him for it.
